Greek church stands against legalization of homosexuality

The Greek government is considering the legalization of homosexual partnerships and granting to homosexual unions almost all the rights that traditional families now have in Greece, reports Watchmen on the Walls.

The bill has already been taken to the Parliament. If it passes, the procedure for registering homosexual unions will become very easy and homosexual couples will receive the same rights as natural families.

It is expected that the Greek Parliament will pass the law within the next few months.

The Greek Orthodox Church has already opposed the government's anticipated decision.

“Some people are trying to isolate and destroy the spiritual identity of Christians through regulations that abolish all moral laws make people the equivalent of animals. Although we condemn sin, we do not condemn the people who commit it,” said the influential Orthodox leader, Metropolitan Salonikskiy Anfim.

A few organizations which form the homosexual lobby in Greece regularly organize meetings and parades in the major public squares of Athens.
